Background:

“Larry and Sue purchased their own farm in 1978, and immediately converted it to organic. At 18, their son Dave invested in the farm, and he and his wife, Ash became full partners in 2011. The Black Family Farm is Manitoba’s only Centennial Organic farm, with the home 1/4 established in 1912. The Blacks have never used farm chemicals, and don’t have that bias to impede their strategies.

In anticipation of their 5th generation of organic farmers, BFF has tripled their land base to >1500 acres since exiting the dairy industry in 2019. Black Family Farm’s yields have continuously improved, as they build soil with a 3 year rotation. In 2016 they turned to Overton Environmental’s EcoTea, which has also helped to boost production. The Black’s focus on out-competing the weeds.”
