Manitoba Organic Development Fund: Farmer Feedback
"We are requesting Manitoba organic farmers' input on research projects. We will use your input when planning upcoming research in collaboration with research scientists. The goal of this survey is to make sure farmers' voices integrated into the project."
BACKGROUND: The role of the MODF is to manage check-off funds remitted by organic buyers. Proceeds of the check-off will be used to support organic research, extension, and market development initiatives, along with specific organic sector development activities. Funds from this regulation will also help support research and education to build resilience on organic farms on years like this with drought and climate variations.

Leveraging Ecosystems to transform Agriculture on the Prairies (LEAP)
"We're currently recruiting farmers to participate in an on-farm study to determine how land management and site properties affect sustainability goals, including net-zero agriculture, biodiversity protection, and productivity. We want to collect information and samples from field with different type of management history, ranging from only annual crops to only perennial crops. We are particularly interested in the "in-between" fields - those that have some diversification or "perennialization" with cover crops, perennials in rotation, and other approaches." Funding Opportunities
Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership
"The Governments of Canada and Manitoba have announced a new $221 million agreement for strategic agricultural initiatives in Manitoba under the new Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (Sustainable CAP). This includes $1 billion in federal programs and activities and a $2.5 billion commitment that is cost-shared 60 per cent federally and 40 per cent provincially/territorially for programs that are designed and delivered by provinces and territories." Prairie Watersheds Climate Program
"The Prairie Watersheds Climate Program (PWCP) provides funding incentives to producers who implement any of three eligible beneficial management practices (BMPs) into their operations. To qualify, BMPs must be a new practice or an expansion of an existing practice onto new acres. The three BMPs eligible for PWCP funding are cover cropping, nitrogen management, and rotational grazing. There are various practices eligible for funding in each BMP category." The Nutrient Budget App
The Nutrient Budgeting App (NBA) was developed to help with multi-year nutrient management planning, especially for producers that rely on biological nitrogen fixation and/or occasional inputs of manure or other soil fertility amendments. This multi-year approach to nutrient management planning can help to optimize production while decreasing nutrient loss to the environment by doing a better job of matching soil nutrients to crop needs.
The Nutrient Budgeting App will help you calculate whether nutrients are accumulating or being depleted from your fields over time. It makes it easy for you to add up the nutrients you are bringing onto your fields (including through N fixation by legumes) and subtract the nutrients that leave your fields to help you plan your crop rotations and soil amendments. The NBA is meant to be used alongside other nutrient management tools such as soil testing.
