KEYNOTE SPEECH & WORKSHOP WITH GARY ZIMMER
"Gary Zimmer is a world-renowned farmer, author, speaker, and biological farming consultant with over 35 years' experience in agriculture. He has helped thousands of farmers to improve their operations, starting with the soil and building to a profitable, successful farming operation. Gary is the founder of Midwestern BioAg, and runs Otter Creek Organic Farm together with his family." (From Zimmer Ag Consulting.) Gary's presentation will be approximately two hours, and will be followed by a 30-minute Q&A Session. View the schedule to see timings.
SESSION: SEEDS THAT FIT THE FARM: INTEGRATING FARMER INNOVATION INTO SEED SYSTEMS
Seed isn't just the beginning of your next harvest, it's an essential tool on any organic farm - giving you an edge when conditions are tough, the weather is chaotic, and you can't fall back on chemical inputs to quickly solve an issue mid-season. Yet, organic variety development lags far behind mainstream plant breeding. Join the Bauta Family Initiative on Canadian Seed Security to explore why that is, and what we can do about it. See how farmers are breeding and adapting seeds to fit their farms, learn how the seed regulations influence organic variety development, and find out about new seed policies that could encourage farmer innovation and support seed diversity for all kinds of farms.
This will be a 30-minute presentation on behalf of the Bauta Family Initiative on Canadian Seed Security. View the schedule to see timings.
FARMER PANEL: IAN CUSHON, GLENN ELLIOTT, & SCOTT BEATON
Hear directly from experienced organic farmers as they share stories from their farms. This panel will dive into soil health and how it relates to profitable farming. Hosted by Brent VanKoughnet, the project lead for net positive network out of ACC. View the schedule to see timings.
