ABOUT ZACK

About Zack: "My name is Zack Koscielny and I am an owner-operator at Green Beach Farm & Food. Currently, I am on the farm full time, while the rest of my family is on the farm part time. Growing up, our farm was called Salt Lake Charolais, as we were primarily breeders of pure bred Charolais cattle. We have since evolved into a commercial cow-calf operation with substantial direct market sales of grass fed beef and naturally raised pork with plans of adding certified organic grains in 2020.
Growing up on a farm was an incredible experience that I consider myself lucky to have enjoyed. This farm life left me with a deep passion for both agriculture & the environment and led me to a degree in Agroecology at the University of Manitoba. At the time..."

We will also review insights from the ongoing soil benchmarking project and share key findings from the work so far.
12:00 - 1:00pm: Lunch.
After the field tours, we'll head back to our gathering point and break for lunch. If you have dietary restrictions or require accommodations, kindly let us know when you register.
1:00 - 2:00pm: Guest Speaker - Ian Cook, Grassland Conservation Manager, Birds Canada.
After lunch, we’ll venture out for one last field tour, this time with a focus on birdlife. Learn about the role of birds in sustainable farming and wildlife conservation.

About Ian: "I grew up on a mixed farm in western Manitoba where I spent many hours in our pastures exploring nature and being captivated by the birds, bugs and mammals that we shared our land with. I’ve always been fascinated by the natural world and our place in it. That interest drove me to continue to learn about agriculture, obtaining my Bachelor’s of Science in Agriculture at the University of Manitoba. Agriculture has such an important role to play in the biodiversity and climate crises we find ourselves in and I am passionate about finding solutions that are mutually beneficial for wildlife, the environment, farmers and ranchers, and society at large. As the Grassland Conservation Manager for Birds Canada I get to work at the interface of agriculture and conservation to find solutions to conserve grassland ecosystems and the birds that make their home there."
